Welcome Suica part of this card needs to be charged before use. You can activate and charge the Welcome Suica part BEFORE the use of the Tokyo 1-day pass part, such as when you want to take non-JR trains, subways, and buses (out of the Tokyo 1-day pass area) or shop at convenience stores like Seven-Eleven.
[Tokyo 1-day pass]
The Tokyo 1-day pass part of this card allows you unlimited rides using non-reserved seats in ordinary cars of JR local and rapid trains in the 23 wards of central Tokyo. This pass will be automatically activated when you tap your card on the ticket gate or when you activate it at a ticket vending machine "in the Tokyo 1-day pass area" below.
PLEASE NOTE that this pass is valid on the day you start the pass. So we recommend you activate your Tokyo 1-day pass in the morning and then you can enjoy all day long all through the Tokyo area with the Tokyo 1-day pass until night.

Additionally, Welcome Suica can be used for shopping at stores displaying the following mark in the Tokyo area. You can use Welcome Suica for shopping before the Tokyo 1-day pass is activated, as well.

Furthermore, once activated in the Tokyo area, it can be used in any other place in Japan for 28 days (for example, from January 1st to 28th). It can be used just like ICOCA, TOICA, Kitaca, PASMO, PiTaPa, and any other transportation IC cards.

Is it hard to activate and charge your Welcome Suica?
No, it is very simple. Just find a ticket vending machine at any JR station around your accommodation in Tokyo and activate and charge your card.

Once you activate the card, you can repeatedly charge at convenience stores or station ticket vending machines for 28 days from the day to start using it.
