Disruption on JR Tohoku Shinkansen and Related Lines

Due to a malfunction of construction vehicles that were being used for nighttime work at Fukushima Station early this morning on April 2, 2024, the JR Tohoku Shinkansen has suspended operations in both directions between Sendai Station and Tokyo Station.

According to JR, it is expected that inspections will take some time, and they have stated that resumption of service in the morning will not be possible today. The cause has been identified as an oil leak from the construction vehicles, and inspections are currently underway.

As a result of this, operations in both directions between Fukushima Station and Tokyo Station on the Yamagata Shinkansen and between Sendai Station and Tokyo Station on the Akita Shinkansen have also been suspended.
The Akita Shinkansen is operating shuttle services between Akita Station and Sendai Station.
