If you're planning to be in central Tokyo this weekend, here's something you really want to be aware of. One of the city's most iconic train lines — the Yamanote Line, which loops around all the major hotspots in Tokyo — will be partially suspended due to construction.
Clockwise (Outer Loop): No service between Ueno and Osaki from Saturday, April 19 (first train) to Sunday, April 20 (around noon)
Counter-clockwise (Inner Loop): No service between Osaki and Ueno from Sunday, April 20 (first train) to around noon
On top of that, service frequency will be reduced to around 40% to 80% of the usual volume on sections that are still running.
Note: The Keihin-Tohoku Line will also be suspended between Higashi-Jujo and Shinagawa during the same period (April 19–20, until noon).
The affected stretch includes Tokyo Station and Shinagawa Station — both major gateways for Shinkansen trains and airport access. If you're heading to or from these stations, allow for extra time and consider alternate routes to avoid last-minute stress.
