Getting from Haneda Airport to the Shinkansen – Your Best Options

Welcome to Haneda Airport, Tokyo’s primary international gateway!

If you're planning to catch a Shinkansen (bullet train) right after landing, here’s a quick and easy guide to get you to the right station efficiently.

Where to Board the Shinkansen?

Tokyo has two major Shinkansen stations:

  • Shinagawa Station (for westbound destinations like Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Hakata)
  • Tokyo Station (for northbound destinations like Sendai, Nagano, Kanazawa, and beyond)

Your choice depends on where you're headed!

Option 1: Haneda Airport → Shinagawa Station
(Westbound Shinkansen)

📍 For destinations along the Tokaido Shinkansen (Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, etc.)

  1. Take the Keikyu Line from Haneda Airport (Terminal 1-2 or Terminal 3 Station) toward Shinagawa Station.
  2. The ride takes about 15 minutes.
  3. Some trains go directly to Shinagawa, while others require a simple same-platform transfer at Kamata Station.
  4. Arriving at Shinagawa Station, follow signs to the Konan Exit where the Shinkansen platforms are located. It’s a short walk from the Keikyu Line area.

🚄 Why choose Shinagawa Station?
Smaller and less crowded than Tokyo Station
Easier and faster transfer to the Tokaido Shinkansen

Option 2: Haneda Airport → Tokyo Station
(Northbound & Other Shinkansen)

📍 For the Tohoku, Hokuriku, Joetsu, and Hokkaido Shinkansen (Sendai, Nagano, Kanazawa, etc.)

  1. Take the Tokyo Monorail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho Station.
    -  Travel time: 18-25 minutes (depending on rapid/local service).
  2. Transfer at Hamamatsucho Station to the JR Yamanote Line or JR Keihin-Tohoku Line toward Tokyo Station.
  3. The train ride to Tokyo Station takes about 5 minutes.
  4. Once at Tokyo Station, follow the signs to the Shinkansen platforms for your destination.

Why choose Tokyo Station?
Connects to all Shinkansen lines across Japan
More departure options for northern and central Japan
