Naoshima Island: A Contemporary Art Paradise in the Seto Inland Sea

Discover Naoshima, Japan’s iconic “Art Island,” where cutting-edge contemporary art meets serene island life.
Nestled in the tranquil waters of the Seto Inland Sea, this small yet world-renowned destination is a must-visit for travelers seeking a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural depth, and artistic innovation.

Known globally as a sacred ground for modern art, Naoshima captivates visitors with its open-air sculptures, including Yayoi Kusama’s famous pumpkin, and its remarkable museums like Benesse House and the Chichu Art Museum, both designed by the legendary architect Tadao Ando

Naoshima also serves as a key venue for the Setouchi Triennale, one of the world's most exciting international art festivals, held every three years across the Seto Inland Sea.
The ongoing 2025 edition, themed 'Restoration of the Sea,' is already proving to be the festival’s most ambitious yet—featuring more artworks than ever before across an expanded list of islands and venues.

While the Triennale is an unforgettable event, Naoshima's charm isn’t bound to a schedule. With its year-round exhibitions, peaceful island atmosphere, and striking architectural spaces, the island offers a deep and lasting cultural experience any time you visit.
