自 2024 年 3 月 16 日起，东海道新干线列车上将全面禁止吸烟。
此前，东海道新干线列车于 2023 年秋季宣布取消车厢内的吸烟区。
东海道新干线上的吸烟环境背景：
2007年，东海道新干线列车上的吸烟区改为指定吸烟室，所有座位均为非吸烟区。
然而，随着“700系列”等较老列车型号在2020年退役，东海道新干线列车上的所有座位都变成了无烟座位，而较新的列车型号仍然提供吸烟室，以满足某些乘客（如商务旅客）的需求。
为了应对日益增强的健康意识和吸烟率的下降，JR东海决定在2022年取消所有剩余的吸烟室，包括最初指定的四个吸烟区以及其中一个改建为“商务包厢”的区域。该公司还决定在2024年3月取消剩余的三个吸烟室。
吸烟室空间的未来用途：
以前用作吸烟室的空间将被重新利用，以提供应急饮用水，从而增强灾害应对能力。
此外，为了改善车厢环境，正在进行一些改变，包括到 2023 年 10 月底停止销售车厢，并在东海道新干线沿线的车站站台上引入咖啡和冰淇淋自动售货机。
