2024년 3월 16일부터 도카이도 신칸센 열차 내에서 흡연이 전면 금지됩니다 .
이번 결정은 2023년 가을에 발표된 도카이도 신칸센 열차 내 흡연 구역 폐지에 따른 것입니다.
도카이도 신칸센의 흡연 환경에 대한 배경 설명:
2007년, 도카이도 신칸센 열차에서는 흡연이 지정된 흡연실로 제한되었고, 모든 좌석이 금연석이 되었습니다.
하지만 2020년 '700 시리즈'와 같은 구형 열차 모델이 퇴역하면서 도카이도 신칸센의 모든 좌석은 금연 구역이 되었고, 신형 열차 모델에는 비즈니스 여행객 등 특정 승객을 위해 흡연실이 계속 마련되어 있습니다.
건강에 대한 인식이 높아지고 흡연율이 감소함에 따라 JR 도카이는 2022년에 기존에 지정된 4개의 흡연실과 그중 하나를 비즈니스 부스로 전환한 것을 포함하여 남아 있는 모든 흡연실을 없애기로 결정했습니다. 그리고 2024년 3월에 나머지 3개의 흡연실마저 완전히 폐지하기로 했습니다.
흡연실 공간의 향후 활용 방안:
기존에 흡연실로 사용되던 공간은 재난 대응 능력을 강화하기 위해 비상 식수 공급 시설로 용도가 변경될 예정입니다.
또한, 2023년 10월 말까지 열차 내 객차 판매가 중단되고 도카이도 신칸센 노선의 역 승강장에 커피와 아이스크림 자판기가 설치되는 등 열차 내부 환경을 개선하기 위한 변화가 진행 중입니다.
