JR 도카이와 JR 서일본은 2023년 9월 13일, 일본의 '3대 성수기'인 연말연시, 오봉(망자의 축제), 골든위크 기간 동안 도카이도 및 산요 신칸센 '노조미' 노선의 전 좌석 지정제를 시행하며, 비지정석은 운영하지 않는다고 발표했습니다.
이번 운영 변경 사항은 연말 연휴 기간인 2023년 12월 28일부터 2024년 1월 4일까지 적용됩니다.
세 가지 주요 성수기에는 지정 좌석이 빠르게 매진되어 승강장에서 지정 좌석을 이용하려는 사람들이 긴 줄을 서야 하는 경우가 많으며, 이로 인해 승하차가 지연될 수 있습니다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 해당 성수기 동안 "노조미" 열차의 모든 좌석을 지정 좌석제로 운영하기로 결정했습니다.
"히카리", "코다마", "미즈호", "사쿠라" 등 다른 신칸센 노선의 경우, 동일 기간 동안 좌석 지정 없이 자유석 이용이 가능합니다.
